Programming a Chinese LED Matrix sign?

Does anyone know of any projects, or have any experience in programming generic Chinese made USB\Bluetooth LED matrix signs?

For example

I haven’t made placed an order yet so I don’t know exactly what they have onboard, but I’d like to know if anyone has been able to control them by some means other than the official app.

My aim would be to have live content updated from another source, preferably Home Assistant, so that I can have it show custom messages based on events. Such as flashing up a message to remind people to close a particular door if it’s been left open, or to show a message if a motion sensor is tripped.

I’m preferably looking for a USB or bluetooth based solution, I’m not really into soldering.

I used one of those 32x8 RGB LED strips and coded up an ESP32 and a rtc clock and made a tide chart. But it was nice seeing how easy it is to get going with the WLED firmware and saw that WLED has integration with Home Assistant. I think you checked off all the boxes unless flashing the firmware is a hurdle.

1500 rgb pixels for $45 (biggest display in that listing) is completely nuts. 3ct per pixel… and that’s disregarding all the other components.
