Portable workbench requirements/features/ideas

I made a very small one a while back:

and am now looking into something a bit more expansive (but still portable).

This Instructable:

(which is matched w/ a 3-part video) was inspiring, in particular, for its being matched with a mobile toolbox on wheels to afford mobility. Since I have a similar toolbox (22 in. Husky Rolling Connect base), this looks to be a nice solution.

My current thoughts are:

  • work up a way to lock the rolling base to the workbench
  • implement drawers by having a set of the Husky Rolling Connect drawers which shift from the base to the workbench?

Features/tools which I may wish to accommodate:

  • a small hand-cranked drill
  • shooting board for a hand plane
  • a length of railroad track as an anvil/weight
  • an electric router for use as a router table?
  • a small cutoff saw, ideally with integrated workholding like to the parallelogram system discussed here in a video from Russia — found the forum post with the video link:

Anyone else considered something similar? Thoughts/suggestions/caveats?

One feature which I am considering is a fold-down/out platform to stand on, so as to add my weight to the bench for planing.

The other is an expansion/lift/opening which accepts a two-drawer Husky Rollong Connect module which when removed and placed on top allows it to be used as a same height saw horse/outfeed table.

I actually scored some veneer covered MDF, so hoping to move forward on this.

Additional thoughts/requirements:

  • allows Jointmaker Pro to be installed and held at a suitable angle/height for use — clearance for long parts
  • allows DJ-1 to be clamped and used for drilling w/ a mechanism to support short parts from underneath
  • allows Chopstickmaster v2 to clamped and used

(maybe I should turn this around and ask if anyone has made a workbench esp. suited to Bridge City Tool gadgets)
