“Hello everyone, I’m new to the Genmitsu community, and I’m still learning a lot about CNC. It’s only been about three months since I even understood you could own one of these machines in your basement, and now here I am trying to sort out two new machines and three software programs! I started with a 4040 Pro and used Easel software, and despite some early challenges (which I’d be happy to discuss later), I was able to carve some cool things. Then I tried learning Carveco and UGS, and that took things to a whole new level! My head is still spinning trying to understand how to move forward with those programs. Now that I’ve got the new Genmitsu Prover XL 4030, I’m running into a few challenges. It seems much louder, and when I run profile cuts, it doesn’t cut straight down, instead, doing a stepped approach, layer by layer. I’ve checked that everything is secure, but the vibrations are still significant. The 4030 also homes to the back right instead of the typical front left. I also need help figuring out the spindle speed settings, as Easel and the controller both have adjustments, and I’m not sure how to properly align the min/max settings. I did also resolve a separate cutting height issue on my 4040 Pro by sending a reset code, but that didn’t help the 4030. I’d appreciate any advice you veterans have!”
There’s lots of YouTube help for Carveco, but also search for ArtCam, the predecessor of Carveco. I use this application quite a lot and find it excellent.
As regards your Homeing issue, I’m pretty sure you can change this in UGS, but I’m sure other forum members while advise.

Yes I have been watching and learning a bunch of different videos and I am starting to pick it up slowly. Part of the problem is trying to setup a new machine (PROVerXL), that I really don’t know well, then use my 4040 as a reference, which I also don’t know well. I have a router on my 4040 and I am floored by the difference in speed of the spindle and the speed of travel.
I really must be running my router too fast!??I usually keep the dial set right around the 5. I I have been cutting Red oak, Soft maple, Cedar, Sapele, Poplar, and Pine. I never new what the RPM settings were by Number, I just listened to how the machine sounded and cuts looked. I looked up the speed settings:
1-6500, 2-10,000, 3-14,000 4-18,000, 5-26,000 6-30,000
My new PROVer spindle maxes out at 12,000 RPM. ??? This is a faster moving machine, the feeds and speeds setting differences are wild! I really feel like I am doing something wrong.
When I was setting up my machine in UGS, I actually did switch it to home in the front left. But then I decided to test the new machine using Easel because I am more familiar with it. That it when I saw it “stepping down” instead of cutting strait down.
I am hoping to run a test cut for both side by side and video.
On top of all that, I just want to scream out, I HATE THESE STUPID “CLAMPS”!!!
Blue tape and glue is so messy. I am so close to just building a vacuum table!!
Thanks
Larry
I hate the smell of superglue and wouldn’t even attempt the blue tape/glue combo. I really have spent the last 15 years or so using cloth carpet tape or double sided duct tape. Depending on the amount of stick, I cut it into narrower strips, so it becomes more user friendly. Some leave a residue which will come off with acetone. As far as speeds go, most of my routers have been one speed…high, so the feed rate, depth of cut, and sharpness of the bit is the way to control it. Bit diameter also influences the speed rate. Don’t use cheap bits. My go to is Whiteside. In UGS, you can control the feed on the fly lower or higher. I think it is called Overide. Easel is OK for 2d stuff, but I prefer to draw in CAD and import a DXF.
Every once in a while, I order another roll or two of Spectape ST501. I think that @donkjr first pointed me at it years ago. I’ve used it sometimes even for machining!
Thank you!! I have been trying Hot glue and it works to hold down the material very well. The problem is, it holds to well and rips up my board underneath it. I think I will try your double sided tape.
Now my biggest problem is with UGS now. I was about 8 hours into a 3d relief and still have about that left on just the rough carve alone. It froze the program mid carve and left the spindle running. crazy frustrating!!
