Playing around with generating raster engravings from larger hi-res jpeg images.

Playing around with generating raster engravings from larger hi-res jpeg images.

When generating gcode with small step overs (laser diameter < .15mm) the right display screen goes white. Reset view or clicking on/off any of the options will not bring the image back on the screen.

It’s fine if I use > .2mm laser diameter.

You can still save the gcode to a file so it does generate it even though you can’t see the resulting “show laser” image

I have to restart Laserweb again to “clear” the problem. It does this with other hi-res images too.

Latest version of laserweb4. Does this on both 32and64 bit versions. Tested on three different Win7 computers.

odd, I use .1 diameter on most of mine without issue although I haven’t run one in a couple days.

@Domm434 I should add that if I scale down the image smaller, it views fine after generating. I’m trying to do larger 200mmx300mm engravings. That’s when I see this problem.

I’m building a larger 800mmx1200mm laser so just testing out laserweb4 large file capability for future raster engravings.

+Peter van der Walt workspace is 2mb. Where can I upload this large file. Pastebin has 512kb limit

I put it in my dropbox you should be able to download it

FYI
It’s a Aztec Calender jpeg. Same image that Epilog uses to make trinkets and pass out at maker faire. Wanted to compare the quality of the engraving with the one they gave me.

+Peter van der Walt I downloaded the latest version and that seem to fix the problem with the file I uploaded at 200mmx200mm. Thanks a bunch to who fixed this.

However I tried bumping up the image size to 800mm x 800mm. It’s the max size of the laser I’m building.
When it reaches 100%, the entire laserweb screen turns white. Have to exit out and restart. The laser isn’t done yet so not to worried about it. It may just be that I maxed out memory on the PC. I have 8gigs.

Oh yea another thing I noticed but forgot to mention is the view gcode data screen is blank for large gcode files. Ok for smaller gcode. Not really a problem for me since I just save the gcode to disk anyway.

+Peter van der Walt not to mention how long it would take to engrave something this big…then again I would probably try lol

+Peter van der Walt i have a larger format gantry CNC. I was thinking it would be nice to do vcarving on the gantry. Then take the piece over to the laser to do highlight on certain areas. I can think of lots of cool things to do with a larger format laser.

+Peter van der Walt this is weird. I got home and downloaded latest Laserweb4 on my main desktop workstation. I’m still getting the original display problem. Checking “about” versions and the file downloaded this evening is different than the one this morning, I think???

Version this morning
Front end 4.0.730
Backend 4.0.50

Version this evening
Front end 4.0.730
Backend 4.0.68

I deleted the install file from this morning so I can’t install it on my desktop. So backend 4.0.50 works and 4.0.68 doesn’t. I’m confused???
