Had one of my wife’s coworkers ask if I could make some small heart pins to wear on some tuxedo lapels. They wanted magnetic backs so it didn’t pierce the silk lapels.
The pins are just 13x13mm (1/2x1/2") which was a bit of a pain to handle because they are so small. The hearts are make from 1/8" ply and painted candy apple red. Glued 3x8mm magnetics to the back of the pins (which just barely fit) and painted the backs black to match the black tuxedos.
To make the corresponding magnetic back easier to handle I cut a 16mm washer, from 3mm acrylic, with the inner circle being cut just large enough to give a tight press fit to the magnet. Lightly roughed up the outside edge of the magnet with sandpaper and press fit the magnet into the acrylic washer.
