Paper transfer tape seller says not suitable for laser

Whelp… I bought some paper transfer tape without realizing that the vendor says it isn’t suitable for use with lasers. It is widely used in the GF community and I never really looked deeper than a friends recommendation. Do I need to trash it and get something else (like the stuff that Ned uses)?

This is what I have. I picked it up off a friend that uses it with the GF. Seems like lots of GFers use it… Manufacturer gives no reason why it isn’t suitable, they just say it isn’t.

I don’t see any reason from a hazard condition that it couldn’t be used. I think it’s because it might not stick well under heated conditions (has some mixed reviews for laser cutting) and the seller doesn’t want negative reviews for something that’s not an intended use.

I assume cause its Vinyl.
Vinyl gives hydrogen chloride when burned.
When mixed with air it turns to hydrochloric acid… nasty stuff!

My first thought as well, but it’s just transfer tape for vinyl lettering, not actually vinyl itself.

It isn’t vinyl. It is used as transfer tape when you make vinyl decals.

Hmm if you look at the reviews on the product folks ARE using it for laser masking ;)!
