In this video session i explain my DIY PNP system. You see some new Features in Chilipeppr and exclusive the first PNP Moves.

That is incredible progress. Seeing the components actually get picked up and placed correctly was a big amount of work, but it’s doing it. I can’t wait to get my CNC setup with a similar setup to yours so I can do it. What I realize I need is one more air valve. I only have one and it’s pretty clear from your video you need the 2nd one to let in external air.

That camera widget came out really nice. The zooming in is great. I need to get my mjpegstreamer going. If you noticed in the cam widget, I actually had it able to install the software needed on the Raspi so the user could just click “install”.

I got that same CNC shield on Saturday as you have, but I’m going to try to connect it to an Arduino Due so I can run TinyG G2 on it.

Beautiful.

Thanks. Yes i order the shield to run this on a due. But, for pnp i’ll use this now with grbl. The cam software are easy, but u need some dev libs. But i guess, to compile this and serve as download is possible.

+Peter van der Walt interesting, you have a link for this 3 way valve?

Found it: http://m.ebay.com/itm/131684222935

My system works only with an aquarium pump. I guess ur ventil are a little oversized  but good tip to use a 3 way valve!

I just bought 3 of the pumps, the 20 pack of BSP connectors, and 10m of the hose. Awesome suggestions Peter.

Venturi with a compressor seems to be how everyone is doing it.
@Anthony_Webb said his air system is overkill, maybe he can weigh in.

I’ve tried most of the 3 way valves and vacuum pumps out there (expensive and cheap), I even rolled my own 3 way setup like was done here. The setup I ended up with which is inexpensive, simple to control, and works very well (and comes in both 12v and 24v flavors) is this:

Other comment was I have not seen any issues with my nema8 hose adapter, it is 3D printed and is not lined as Frank did here. This may be because the vacuum has enough sucking force to overcome any leaks in the adapter? At any rate, the exhilaration of picking and placing your first parts is a rush isnt it?! Welcome to the club!

@Anthony_Webb I did get one of each of those about 2 weeks ago. The question is on that high frequency solenoid, that seems to only be one valve, so do you 1) turn off the diaphragm pump and then 2) open the solenoid valve to release the PnP component?

@jlauer in the photos you cant see there are ports on each side and the bleeder in the front, so for me the pump stays on during the whole job and I just turn the valve on to pick up the part, and turn it off to place it. So I was able to replace my previous plumbing and complete on/off dance on multiple solenoids with just one $15 that is as simple as toggling on and off. Here is the old setup that it replaced: https://cdn.hackaday.io/images/327631453777188480.JPG

Ok, gotcha. I guess I didn’t need to buy the pump I bought today then. Oh well, it was cheap. Thanks for the help. Can’t wait to get this assembled.

The valve I have is similar to Anthony’s robotdigg link:
http://s.aliexpress.com/ZzQRvq2A

I have it hooked up to an aquarium pump modded for suction but when I turn the valve off there is still residual vacuum in the tubing on the nema8/ nozzle side, so I think I need to implement a second valve for exhaust as in the ‘before’ setup. I am not sure if it was being suggested that the robotdigg valve can handle both operations.

My valve from the Aliexpress link is a simple 2 way.

@raykholo yea that looks like a 2 way, the ones I linked to are 3 way, they work well, the only apprehension I have had is finding fittings for the valve, they claim to be normal 1/8 inch, but all the fittings I have found only go in a few threads. Derek over at robotdigg said he will be sourcing the fittings needed and sell those as well, and for now the fittings I have are working, but I hope to get some with more of a proper fit. The other option, for more money but is totally complete fittings and all, which I have tried as well is this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331753067579

I’m with my pump/valve system very satisfied. But the nozzle system with this extrem runout and also the very expensive JUKI System … i don’t like it. I set an order for the Samsung CP40 system with holder and 6(!) Nozzles for ~30 Euro: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-smt-nozzle-CP40-SMT-holder-copy-new/32471361828.html

Frank, does the CP40 have spring loading? It appears maybe it does in the holder, but hard to tell.

Yes, the spring are inside in this holder. Thats make the system so cheap.

Interesting. Let us know how that one works out when you get it. Have you tried the Juki nozzle with the new holder yet?

@raykholo not now, too much work on pnp
