My neighbor passed away and I bought his used Omtech 60 watt 600x400 co2 laser, I had a diode laser but she needed it gone so I bought it from her. She knows nothing about it but I know he used Lightburn. Well, I moved it a couple doors down to my house and I cannot get it to connect to any computer. I bought another usb cable thinking that was the problem, Both of my computers worked fine with my diode laser but will not even bring up a com option. I reloaded CH340 and that didn’t help? It wont talk to Lightburn or RDWORKS. Please help. I already paid too much for it so I’m hoping it’s simple
It’s probably fine.
If you use USB, it must have the correct drivers - as a Linux user, I can’t help you there. Usually Lightburn asks about loading the USB driver.
With Ethernet you don’t need drivers as they are already used for your Internet connection.
Suggest you look at the Lightburn instructions on connecting via Ethernet instead of USB.
Might want to create a login at the Lightburn Forum.
If you still have problems, sing out.

You will need the version of LightBurn which is for Ruida controllers instead of the version for GRBL controllers.
Lightburn keeps telling me the trial version works on everything? I’m will to get the pro version if it gets me up and running
I bought a pc and used a ethernet cable. Still doesn’t work, I followed the instructions on you tube but still nothing?
Even if I download my program onto my flash drive and insert it into my omtech slot it won’t recognize it. It says files empty?
can you show us some pictures of your laser and more importantly your laser’s control panel?
Did you follow the instruction in the Link I provided? Don’t know about youtube, but the link instructions work.
We might have to dig into more detail… this stuff works, pretty well, so I’m surprised you’re having issues.

I followed and still nothing, it does the exact same thing in RDWORKS also so I’m guessing I need a new controller
It doesn’t look like you’ve ever told us you powered on the laser, water cooling system and extraction fan. These CO2 lasers are quite different from your little air cooled diode laser machine.
Still no picture of the display/controller unit but if it is a Ruida then you should have full manual control via the front panel so you could test movement and laser firing. BUT, you must also have the water cooling system running in order to fire the laser because there are water flow switches along with door switches which must be triggered in order to operate the machine.
Everything is turned on, Its a Ruida RDC6442G. Yesterday I got it cut a square in lightburn but when I downloaded a file the controller just beeps. I was able to finally get a connection by going directly to the motherboard. I just downloaded a small file and it cut but on a larger file it will not do anything. It does the same thing in both lightburn and rdworks?
Great! Now you know that there is a connection problem with the USB extension cable which goes from the Ruida controller module to the side of the case and that’s an easy fix. Better yet you can unplug that cable and connect your computer directly to the controller module and start using the machine.
As for being able to “download a small file” or a big file goes that’s likely a Ruida configuration or limitation. I would go to Omtech and look for any firmware updates for the Ruida and I would look for how to do a factory reset and reconfigure the machine so you know you have some known starting point. Who knows what configuration changes were made by the previous owner.
Also, do not put anything but distilled water into that chiller/water cooler. If you’ve put any regular water in it then flush out the chiller and the tube and make sure you only have distilled water. You do not want any conductive water/fluid in the machine.
Thank you, I did fill it with distilled water. As far as checking on updates and possible factory resets I’ll have to research what that entails. I’m just an old retired guy trying to find a hobby.
regarding the small design file size limitation, look at your device settings on the LightBurn side to see if it’s showing the correct size of your work area. I’m wondering if you can’t “download” bigger files is because it thinks they are outside the working area.
And as for being retired and looking for a hobby, you are in for a treat with that laser once you get it going. Besides making cool boxes for everyone using designs from boxes.pl there’s fun stuff like laser engraving scenes and then pouring colored epoxies. Or using powdercoat powder and scintering it into your designs to add color then all the topographical maps and things you can make by layering 3mm plywood. If you are into that kind of stuff.
As a word of warning, don’t.
The Ruida is a supplied component to many manufacturers of lasers who set the vendor properties to their specific machine. It’s more than very likely that many of your vendor settings will be changed and make the machine inoperable.
If you use Lightburn, go to the Machine settings, which should read your machines settings. Then save them somewhere you don’t loose them. same them somewhere you can use as a backup. This helps, but I’d refrain from it unless you’re going to throw the Ruida in the trash.
I’ve had mine over about 6 years now and have never needed to do a reset and I’ve added all kinds of junk to it.
I do do a reset from the keypad reset button, which is like a power on, not a factory reset.

So you are saying that Omtech won’t supply those saved configuration files to owners of their machines? If they won’t then ya, as a last resort and maybe after you find someone with the exact same machine who can share their settings.
This machine is of unknown condition and nobody knows what the original owner did to it.
At least he now has connectivity and the current problem looks like maybe a work-area setting limitation or a memory size limitation due to some other thing(s).
