Noob with a new printer

Hey all

completely new to 3d printing, never done it before but been wanting to have a go for a while now. I do lot of DIY woodworking & im reasonable useful in CAD already so hoping to add this as an additional tool

Ordered a Bambu H2S + a AMS2 Pro which will arrive tomorrow. Been doing a bunch of research now so i get the basics but ive no doubt theres a whole bunch of real world experience to learn for myself.

The printer comes with a 0.4mm nozzle and ive bought so basic PLA & PETG, i have a list of items i want to start with such as printer accessories and plate holders & the desiccant holders where they are needsed etc but my initial first project is gridfinity & get some organising of my hand tools done.

PLA & PETG will do all that for now while im learning BUT i want to delve into some more materials such as PCTG, ASA, TPU and eventually play with CF & GF alloys

This is where my first question comes in. with more hash abrasive fibres hardened steel nozzles will degrade and the diamond back nozzles come highly recommended. In the various videos ive watched the nozzles are small brass screw in fitting which a diamond tip but when i look at what i would purchase the tip seems to be part of the hotend rather then a desperate item. Am i right in thinking that i would buy an E3D Diamondback hotend which includes the diamond tip nozzle and it comes in one piece or is it two seperate units that both need to be upgraded

Again its early days so this isnt needed yet but i do intend to have a play and mights as well upgrade that earlier rather then breaking something later

Im sure i’ll have MANY more stupid questions but if anyone can help me understand this id be grateful

Just use the stock nozzle for your first year and if you burn through many dozen rolls of filament(PLA, ABS, TPU, PETG) then test your extrusion width and if it’s wider than spec then replace the nozzle.

You have a lot to learn and that includes calibration objects. If you get a high end Bambu then it will have the extrusion calibration scanner built-in and will adjust.

Then you can see if you still want to do CF or other of the more abrasive filaments. Load yourself up with knowledge slowly and enjoy the ride.

Yup, I’m with Dougl on this one. The second thing I put in my hobby room after my 3D printer was a box for my junk prints. Stuff I made that wasn’t just right, and stuff that didn’t fit. I still have all of those parts, some with sharpie writing on them and arrows pointing to the mistake areas. Most of my parts that I printed were parts for a printer and parts for the hobby room until that got boring. Then I started using the printer for gifts and toys…
