Countdown to cease-and-desist from Bambu starting now… ![]()
I have an AnyCubic Kobra S1. There is a similar open source option for it.
EDIT: this one, I think. I haven’t tried it…yet?
Bambu’s software is based on open source software so they shouldn’t have licensed it in the first place.
Louis Rossman is “doing a number on it” at the moment on YouTube.
I have been following and wish him the best success. Vis-a-vis Bambu’s license shenanigans, yeah, I’ve been calling out their misbehavior since they first claimed that they didn’t need to release the source code to the slicer in their beta program (though that included posts on twitter, where I have since deleted my account, for what I hope are fairly obvious reasons).
Yesterday on our Maker Forums Social Mastodon, I linked to Josef’s fairly detailed thread about this:
In it, he cites how multiple laws in effect in China are aligned with Bambu’s behavior.
Yikes! I just read the thread about the downloadable network blob! It is probably safe to assume AnyCubic (or any Chinese 3D printer manufacturer) does, too.
Well, only the ones that push cloud printing features. I don’t think Qidi does this, for example. They are direct connect, and give root access into the onboard Linux running klipper.
Elegoo have now introduced this on their Centauri Carbon2. You can only wirelessly connect via their own ElegooOrca slicer which is pretty clunky. There are some work arounds being worked on apparently.
