I made a double bed for my grandson.
First designed in Fusion 360. This is the first time Ive done this for a wood working project. I will be doing it from now on. Being able to calculate / measure the timber sizes was brilliant.
So I bought some timber …
Then cut the tree shapes on a vinyl cutter, stuck those onto some pine and cut one of each with a jigsaw …
Then used a router, in a router table fitted with a flush cut bit and made more trees - lots more - 50 in fact!
I 3D printed some dowel jigs, and drilled 2 holes in the top and bottom of each tree for 6mm dowels. Used the same jig to drill corresponding holes in the top and bottom braces of the bed pieces …
Long story short, I finished the pine with wax, and installed it in his room…
I calculated it cost around £600 in wood / bits and pieces. Apparently you can buy a similar design online (although not such solid timber) for £1,200.
Should I leave my games developer job? Nah!
