I agree about the laser cutting quality. I had a challenge with the new laser bed not being level at the place I was using. 2 steps forward and one back.

I think I will sand it and leave it a natural colour.
Aren’t you going to get soot out the bottom face of a cut even with good quality laser cutting? A better machine will do a better job, but it can’t defy physics. Burning wood means soot.
Now sanded and looking much better!
I don’t see how a narrower kerf prevents that. Minimizes, yes.
