My son’s school K-5 is looking at getting a 3D printer with hopes of exposing the students to this ability, obviously with a lot of adult help.

Any recommendations from the community on a 3D printer to get that is in the $1,500 and below range?

I’m not sure there anything in that price range that is robust enough to let kindergartners (or even fifth graders) loose on it per se, but that said, how about the upcoming prebuilt printrbot simple metal? It’ll be significantly cheaper, still pretty robust (as much as these things get robust, really), and you can see the workings very well.

Ultimaker 1 deal until the end of March? Comes with a Doodle3d.
