Oh god, someone FINALLY took some pictures of how the spectra line thing is supposed to work. Thank you!
Excellent writeup, makes me want to build a 3dr!
I am totally yoinking those spectra bobbins (the principal at least) for the Ingentis (Big Tantillus). Thanks @Richard_Horne
@ThantiK Yea, sorry about that. I really should have explained it in the first post.
Great write up, I am seriously considering the 3DR as my next printer.
A few comments / questions:
Thanks !
@Richard_Horne no sorry needed. I mean flat out. Period. Your pictures are the first I’ve ever seen anyone take of how to do the spectra line thing. I mean like at all.
@Shachar_Weis 1) - it depends on how badly they are printed, I don’t think you need aluminium ones, they are overkill. Printed are just fine.
2) - Steppers should not run that hot, they should be warm at the most, every one of my printers run 2.5A Nema17 motors at under 1A and they stay cold. Even the 1.2A motors run only warm ‘normally’
3) - Yes
- I have one running with dual and another running with 4 extruders.
@ThantiK Glad to help, and I’m only expanding on the good work originally done on Tantillus.
+anthony morris There is at least one Youtube video of how to do the Spectra on thr original Kossel.
@Richard_Horne how have you found the spectra to hold up over time? Are you re-tensioning often?
@Tim_Rastall It holds up really well, my Tantillus has it’s original slightly thinner line than 3DR, not had to tension it since I first built it about 9 months ago. It has oil and hairspray over the line and still works perfectly. My linear bearings are wearing out, the line is not.
@Richard_Horne If I want to use Ramps instead of Rumba, do I have to modify the STL, or do I just need an Add-on adapter ?
Thanks.
@Shachar_Weis I would say just to make an adapter plate, because the three top sections are identical you end up with a lot of spare mounting posts, so you can use a RUMBA to RAMPS plate or see how the other posts space out to just make a RAMPS plate to fit. That will make sense when you see the three top sections together
Thanks, I’ve started printing the 3DR parts
It’s going to be my first pure DIY printer.
