MeshCAM Troubleshooting

I’m completely new to MeshCAM and it’s giving me an issue I can’t fix. It might actually not be much of an issue at all, but let me know what I can do about it or if it’s an issue. So the CNC machine I have is barely big enough to carve the the neck through design that I have for my guitar, and only if I laid across the CNC diagonally. But when I do that, I cannot stop MeshCAM assuming my stock is a gigantic square that almost fills the entire CNC bed. But when I redefine the stock dimensions to be the same size as the actual blank stock of wood I’ll be using, I can’t figure out how to rotate that the align with the geometry. How do I fix this?

Note: I already checked Fixed Stock Size and I also clicked Fit To Geometry. Brother fixed anything for me.

Bonus question: is there a redo function?

Thanks.

yeah meshcam can be finicky with stl files sometimes, i usually just convert to step first with https://cncdrop.com/tools/stl-to-step and then import that instead, gives you way more control over the toolpaths

Isn’t there a function to import a DXF to define the region to be used for machining?

There is a Gcode to revolve the Y axis a certain number of degrees. I used to cut my necks on a smaller cnc that way. Grbl may not support it, but Mach3 does.

With Grbl, I use the machine exact geometry settings.

Fit to Geometry

Machine Geometry Plus Zero ( or what ever extra you want to leave)

The machine will travel the area, but not cut only what you want cut. You can narrow it down by using keep out areas.

From my experience, you’d be better off cutting a neck through portion and adding the wings for the body afterward , as opposed to trying to cut out a whole guitar. I’ve been building guitars since 1980…FWIW

The redo function is not saving your gcode to disk…or start over the CAM program until it works right.:-).
