Maker Video Live-streams

I’ve been experimenting with loading my CNC router up with USB cameras, and streaming the video using OBS. I had a ton of fun, even if it was just me streaming to a solo chat room. Because someone could be watching, I actually slowed down my process, took extra care to document as I go, used a text file as a simple project management tool.

I’m curious what streaming platforms have a strong maker community, especially bias towards open-source.

Interesting topics I’d love to see / contribute to

  • Always-on streaming of makerspace tools (example: 3D printers)
  • People actively building/repairing things, talking through their process
  • Designing using tools like Inkscape & CAD
  • Multi-person podcasts / discussions - pair-programming & chatting, collaboratively working on projects

Feel free to share links to high-quality creators you enjoy watching…

I haven’t started looking on PeerTube or other federated video sites at this point. Call me lazy?

Completely uninterested in unedited real-time videos. I’m already complaining that youtube won’t go faster than 2x… But, that said… In alphabetical order, here are some of the YouTube channels I sometimes enjoy with making content. It’s heavy on machining because I’ve been a hobby machinist for some years now. Some of them aren’t super active right now, but all of them have been worth watching at one time or another, and most of them are around your second bullet point of actively building or repairing things and talking through their process. A mix of professionals and rank amateurs; being included in this list doesn’t mean I take their word as gospel!
