no printing from pellet/powder …
It looks like a sewing machine… Nice.
I want to edit this to say that this is meant as a compliment… My grandmother and mother used to amaze me with what they could make on their sewing machines. FDM printers are the new making machines for my generation.
@christophe_malvasio pellets have practical issues that make them less desirable for “smaller” machines, and powder is a very different class of machine.
I like the touch screen, it’s time to move away from the ‘smart’ panel and glcd. Those things were clumsy to use, touch should fix that. I think running 3D printers untethered should be the way these machines should operate.
Jeff, I agree. There were a few people happy to hear cloud platform isn’t required but using your phone to start a print is nice… No computer. Touch screen will greatly help calibration, wifi setup and more. Looking forward to sharing it w the world.
@Brook_Drumm Well, cloud wasn’t what I meant, I meant without having a computer feed it g code the whole run. But if cloud pans out, then you’d be among the first to benefit.
Having the computer give it GCode essentially line by line is definitely a weak point in the whole process; I recall all too well the sound of the printer slowing down and stuttering when I try rendering a new part while printing. But I’m also extremely skeptical about the “cloud” handling it as well.
Sending files directly to the printer over WiFi and then using the onboard controls may end up being the happy medium, but we’ll see.
This receives a file over wifi locally, or through cloud… It saves entire file to the printrhub (LCD / esp8622 wifi / Tinyg 3.2 powered print host mini computer). Then it streams to the Tinyg (M3 arm processor… 32 bit). Over the air firmware updates for all electronics. It communicates over a serial cable.
Tinyg has usb-B if you want to use Cura (or whatever) with a plugin. A plugin is required since gcode is plain vanilla gcode like you would see in a Cnc machine… Other stuff like temp is handled with json. The json part is appropriate for all non- motion control stuff that you have.
@Brook_Drumm do you have a release date yet? Everyone in our office loves our existing PBs and cannot wait to add a couple of these once it releases.
Tentatively: end of August. You always think it will take less time than not actually does
we are very close. Just waiting on new revisions of pcbs and small tweaks in the included components. There is a lot to balance. It’s complicated
Thanks!
