Looking for high detail, small sized printers. Anyone got names I can take a looksies at?
What cost range, what materials or properties, whats the end goal with it?
I am looking for a high detail plastic printers, one I can cast high temp silicone molds with. The pieces I’d be making would usually be less than half a foot if large at all.
Check out @Rene_Jurack ’s Dice for a small precise 3d printer
Sweet thanks.
If silicone molds are the goal, you can get really high resolution from a SLA printer, but it is costly for the printer and the materials.
Small and accurate, but much cheaper is Rene’s DICE. You’ll probably want a 0.2 to 0.3mm nozzle, and print at 0.1mm layer height or lower. Every little detail will show up in the mold, so it’s worth it to get something capable of high resolution. It’ll take longer to print, but you can make a lot of molds from it.
Thank you again! Any suggestions for possibly scanning existing pieces?
I second the idea of getting an SLA printer. You can get sub-50μm layers. You could check out the Form1 and Form2, or look into a printer that uses a DLP projector.
DLP meaning?
Digital Light Processing. It’s a different type of projector that’s often used for SLA printing because of its high PPI when using it in this application (they’re usually FHD, and therefore projecting in an area less than 250mm^2 yelds a higher PPI) and ability tocure resins without modifications (some do anyway).
So find an SLA printer that utilizes DLP with either Form1 or Form2.
No no, the Form1 and Form2 are two actual printers, DLP is a subtype of SLA printing. The Form printers use lasers for curing, which gives really good print quality, but the trade off is the speed of printing.
Ahhhhh. Thanks so much guys.
@raykholo , how do I get my hands on one?
Oh but the price… It will be some time.
