Laser Cut Packaging Inserts

If you need to ship something with delicate parts consider laser cutting some inserts from something like cardboard. Cardboard is cheap (free), cuts quickly and provides decent rigidity if used in stacked layers.

In this case I’m shipping a masonic symbol cut from 1/8" ply. The ends of the compasses are some what delicate, hence the need to added protection during shipping.

Cut a top, bottom and middle from 1/8" cardboard.

Tacked the middle to the bottom layer with some CA glue.

Added the item, placed the top layer on loose and secured with some packing tape.

If your item is thicker, just add more middle layers.

When you laser cut cardboard it leaves a sooty edge. Remove the soot using compressed air or a soft brush
