My k40 has worked for years, but all of a sudden today it stopped firing in the middle of a job and the power display would flash “00.0” along with the laser red dot. After I stop the job and rehome, the panel resets to the original power setting. I can have it cut just fine and it will fire with the laser test button. I have made sure that the ground is making a good connection with the case even though it has a 3 prong outlet. I’m at a loss at this point an am unsure what the issue is.
Correction…while I was running a test cut just now, the power display turned off completely and laser stopped firing. I guess nothing is working now.
Hi, could you provide a picture of your machines front panel as well as the electronic bay? I’m guessing that this is a stock K40 with a digital controller? What control board do you have?
Has all the attributes of a failed power supply.
Yes, it’s the stock digital display. I have added a mA meter, and the control board has been upgraded to a Cohesion3D board running smoothieware. Unfortunately, I cannot add a picture at this time. I will try to add one when I have a chance.
For some background information, I have sanded away the paint to make sure that the ground nut makes good connection with the case, even though it splits into the 3 prong ground to the wall as a precaution. So I don’t necessarily think it would be a grounding issue. However, I could be wrong!
Definitely something I thought could be the issue. I just didn’t want to go buying a new one until I knew for sure that was the problem. Ballin’ on a budget here!
