Just milled aluminium for the first time on my cnc.

Just milled aluminium for the first time on my cnc. Very happy with the result.

I used a single flute end mill 4mm running at 10000rpm with a feed of 250 to 850 mm per min depending on the job. Full width cut into pocket was slowest feed and cutting the edge down was fastest.

I didn’t hear chattering and the end mill and stock was still cool so i avoided gumming.

This is a part for my 4th axis soon to be ready. It is a bracket for a 4.5A nema 35 i was having lying around. It will be mounted on the part with the chuck mounted. I bought a DM860 driver for this motor.

Congrats! Can you mention the spindle power and the depth of cut, please?

Depth of cut is 0.5mm and spindle power is 2kw but it never runs at full power. Is has water cooling but it wasn’t even turned on for the hour the job ran for.

I could easily have run it harder, but for this first job on this machine, i chose to run it with the calculated figures for that end mill.

Nicely done. If you don’t want the mess of wet lubricant you can rub beaulube all over the surface of the metal. Adding a dust collector with boot around the spindle also cools things down.

Beaulupe what is that. Because i don’t want WD40 on my table :grinning:

It’s like a bar if wax, you can get paste too. You can rub it into the cut between passes too.

Henrik congrats on your first run. Let the chips fly!

Looks good. The point of “Lube” is to cool the bit, so whatever is used should be applied to the bit (tool). And will be used as the bit heats up (as needed)…

Also look up the dual vortex chiller.

It seems not to be a problem with heat at least in this job. I have prepared for air cooling purchasing all the necessary parts like hoses nossels low noise compressor etc. Just need to set it all up. …
