Just because your machine can move fast doesn't mean it should.

The fuzzy engraving is Laser Fill at 70% @ 2000 mm/min. The cleaner engraving is Laser Fill at 20% @ 1000 mm/min. I’m sure I could get even better but this is for a shop tool so it’s clear enough.

I started up in the 10000 mm/min range and the machine wanted to jump off the workbench and skipped steps. I was trying to match the speeds from raster but realized I didn’t need to since it’s a completely different style of engraving.

… and they spec these machines at 300 mm/sec (18,000 mm/min)?

For raster 18,000 isn’t a problem. Try to do it with rapid direction changes and you’ll see what I mean.

@Carl_Fisher ah I missed that I thought this was raster.

Yeah I learned the hard way that the two are far from comparable.

I’ve had similar issues in the past when testing a mock engrave (using many vector line, spaced at 0.1mm apart). It would vibrate like crazy, so much so that my mirror bolts would loosen & alignment would need redoing almost immediately.
