You should have the fan powered when doing PID tuning if you are going to use a fan, right? I have mine set to always on and fed directly from the ATX power supply.

@Howie_Dibble That is totally not what I asked about.
The hotend/extruder fan should always be on when the printer is on and therefore be running when performing PID tuning. It should also have a shroud to keep the air from spilling onto the nozzle or print (reference to your previous post).
@Branden_Coates Good point. Maybe I will wire it up to a variable output later. I am on the other end of the spectrum though. I will probably not have my printer on much except when I plan to print.

I am an ABS user. I never used PLA. I might switch to PET or some other ABS alternative later though. My hotend fan is strictly for the cooling fins for my hotend to prevent heat crawling up my filament.
