Completly new to 3D printing. We got my daughter a flash forge AD5M pro for christmas.
We have printed probably 20 things. All of the items that came installed on the printer printed perfectly. We downloaded a bunch of stuff from maker world and printed random stuff like christmas ornaments, fidgets, dragons, some pretty neat stuff.
its failed probably 6 or 7 times now and I just dont know what the problem is. I thought it might be the filament, so I switched that. I tried cleaning the bed, re slicing it and trying it again. multiple times, every time, it just stops.
it always stops during the first layer.
I switched back to one of the pre loaded items on the printer, and its printing just fine.
Im guessing its something with the file then right? problem is, I have no idea what to look for, or even where to start. I know nothing about the slicer program other than to pickmy printer from the list, and click slice.
to make matters worse, I picked a different file from maker world, and it failed multiple times on the first layer.
went back to a different pre loaded file and it printed just fine,
I can post a video of it stopping or a picture of whats going on if that helps.
Welcome to the rabbit hole… Often times the manufacturer sends these files with their systems. They have worked on these files until they print as close to perfect as their machine can print. So now you want to print goodies that aren’t from their SD card. Depending on what suggested slicer program ‘they’ want you to use, Your best bet is to follow their protocol until you have educated yourself on the working of your printer. Also being it is winter time you should use a filament dryer to gas out most of the moisture that filament pulls in. You can find many decent goodies on ‘thingaverse’. Sorry if that is too vague but I’m not a Flash Forge guy..
I printed a bunch of stuff off of maker world already. Its just weird to me that this one keeps failing. I printed the one plate with the bottom half of the game holder. Now every time I try to print the top, it just stops. I feel like theres some difference in some setting somewhere that Im just not seeing.
Im not sure what actually fixed the problem, but i got it to work.
I basically started over.
I removed the slicer(orca) from my computer and re dowloaded it.
I ended up finding another file on a different website that had a very similar looking model. I put that into the slicer, and then with the USB stick I put it in the printer. it printed fine.
may have just been the file, may have been more problems, but Its working now, so I guess im good to go.
