First of all, thank you so much for creating this wonderful program. I think it has really opened up many possibilities for the hobby CNC and robotics communities.
I have built a six axis arm and am using grbl mega 5x. After some difficulties importing the STL, it’s now working (I didn’t realise that the stls should be renamed to Base+, A+, B+ etc). There were some very minor bugs in the machine manager, where you can only change the position parameters of the axes after minimising the tool parameters - hope this tip helps others.
I am now trying to follow this tutorial from YouTube:
But I think grblgru has just so much that the instructions don’t work any more. For example, after loading the Seahawks SVG, I tried to create job but there is no job called robot paint, and if I use any other job type, I get an immediate error:
Should I try with the 3.4 version of GrblGru - so that I am matching the youtube tutorial version? If so, please could you make the older versions available for download?
Once again, may I applaud you for creating such an amazing piece of software.
Thanks for giving GrblGru a try.
And sorry that some of the old videos are no longer reproducible.
But I’m constantly trying to develop the program further, and sometimes old functions are dropped or replaced by others.
I don’t think the suggestion of “digging up” an old version is a good one.
But I would be happy if you could try out the latest beta version.
I would also be happy to help you. If something doesn’t work, I’ll have to try to correct it.
In your specific case, the problem is probably just the transformation mode “Projection”, which has replaced the old mode “Robot paint”.
Thank you for your reply!
I have made some progress.
After a lot of time spent in the 5.20 release version, it seems that the latest beta version is a lot more stable and didn’t have the errors when i was trying to create the jobs. I had just assumed that the release version would be more stable, but actually at least for the robot arms, or perhaps just my custom model, the beta worked better.
One thing I wonder whether is possible, is to have the tool perpendicular to the sixth axis (H). I have tried many permutations of setting this up but the paths generated just won’t work.
I’m afraid that I haven’t really understood the problem yet.
Can you please provide me with your STLs and the “Machine.dat” file here and explain to me in detail what exactly you want to do?
