Is it possible to run 4x nema 17 steppers using a ramps 1.4 board for Z axes? Can 2 motors be ran off each leg of the Z driver connections?
I believe if you do it that way you would be driving the motors at 1/4 the max current the driver is set to. If the driver can handle 1 amp then the most the Z motors would see is 1/4 an amp (totaling up to 1 amp).
I would rather modify the firmware and use e1 to drive two of the four motors, if you aren’t using it for a second extruder.
If you are running 2 z motors, you want to wire them in series. So they spin the same way, at the same rate. This is what the Mendel does
use external driver that can handle more load 2 or 4 TB6600 should do !
