Is it better to get the NEMA 17s with the longer or the shorter

Is it better to get the NEMA 17s with the longer or the shorter shafts?
I’m looking at eBay and I see two lengths… Not sure which to buy

It is the same

It’s the same , although the long axes are easier to put pulleys

depends on your needs…do you need the longer shaft for getting through a mounting hole? or to ensure a good fit for a pulley/gear?
The only difference between the two will be the shaft length, providing similar models are used. Double check the specs to ensure that you are getting a motor with the torque and voltage levels you need.

Go with the longer shafts, too much is not an issue here. Better to have full engagement of a pulley.

Like @Brandon_Satterfield said go with the longer ones. Usually there won’t be a huge problem with the longer shaft ones. And if they are too long you can always dremel them off. Just make sure to tape off the motor to ensure that no metal shavings get in it.

I went longer shafts then printed a small bearing block fitted with 625zz bearings to support the end of the stepper shaft to eliminate when the belts are tensioner. The block bolted to the same plate as the stepper mount.
