In much less time and with far less resources but lots of good heart, dedication and good will from many on this and other related communities we have achived far more than glowforge. LaserWeb an awesome open source, platform independent solution feature packed and with a steady development in the current and next version. Add to that all the research done on how to convert to a smoothieboard and the easy 2 cable setup plus the drop in solutions from awesome hardware developers also. Indeed a bad they for glowforge supporters but here we are all greatfull to all of you for your constant support.

Feel bad for the backers of this project…

The open source community proves its strengths again.

I think it would be awesome if laserweb attempted some of the features glow forge has been working on…
-3d laser surfaces mapped and identified by webcam
-work area and automatic feed thru via Webcam again
These would be Huge features if they could be explored and implemented.

Those are definitely wish list items. But there are much more pressing feature requirements that are being addressed in the LaserWeb 4 update that is currently being coded. But feel free to open an issue in Github to list any enhancements you may wish. There is no guarantee that the LaserWeb team will implement them, but unless they know what the users want, it is hard to please anyone. I know my personal wish is for true A axis rotary support. I have a tom of project ideas that would require a rotary attachment to create properly. Probably best to ask for enhancements in a non machine specific format, ie I wish that LW supported webcam mapping of 3d surfaces, not can you do 3d mapping like glowforge does with a webcam. That way the feature will be implemented in a manner more suited to LW than a cheap copy of another machines software. And also, please remember, glowforge is still vaporware. They can claim it does anything until it actually ships, so take every thing they say with a pinch of salt.
