In case anyone is looking for smaller LEDs, check out the SK6812mini.

Yeah- they are also available in 4 and 5m spools. We weren’t sure how great the longer lengths would be, since there is so much less copper on the thin strips. The 2m versions show consistent whites from end-to-end at 1/3 brightness (need to check it at full power!), but the ends seems to flicker a little bit more. Of course a longer reel would be good for cutting into smaller pieces, or for applications where not all the lights need to be on at the same time.

Thanks for info and for sharing it all!

I just purchased 10m from AliExpress for $49, about what I would pay for 5 m of the 5050s

@Roger_Kolasinski - could you share a link to what you bought?

I was a little off on the final price $59… But still only $10 mire than I pay for 5m

@Roger_Kolasinski Those look like 30px/m 5050’s on 10mm wide strip.

I’ve been playing with APA102’s in this 3.5mm size. Good stuff.

Agh. I haven’t tried apa102s yet

Do these come in APA102 variety and in the 144ppm?? I would order loads if that was on offer

@Garrett_Mace Where did you find APA102’s in 3.5mm? My life is 37% better since moving to APA’s…

+Garrett Mace if you can post a link of where you found the apa102 in tha small formfactor that would be awesome

There is no link for me to give you…and there is no premade strip. Skunk Works type stuff.

5M for $21: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/5m-30LEDs-m-DC5V-addressable-SK6812-led-pixel-strip-waterproof-in-silicon-tube-IP66-30pcs-SK6812/32510456807.html

The 4mm strip is cool and all and I can think of a ton of uses for it. But can you please explain what the 10mm strip is? Look like a white LED with a yellow phosphor blob. But that’s only covering half the package. Is that a RGBW strip with 5050s on a 1-wire protocol? Where can I buy this?

Those are indeed RGBW digital LEDs that speak the WS2812 protocol (they use the SK6812 controller).

I could really use a thinner strip for a project I am starting. Any thoughts on this seller/item: http://www.pixel-leds.com/products/235-4MM-60-LED-SK6812mini-SMD3535-RGB-pixel-LED-strip.html ? It looks like they’ll work fine with FastLED, and they are likely compatible with WS2811, but I’d like to use FastLED + OctoWS2811 since I’ll have a ton of strips. Has anyone ordered these and used them?

Those look like the same ones that we stock (http://shop.blinkinlabs.com/collections/frontpage/products/4mm-wide-led-strip-white), and they use the SK6812 IC, which works fine with FastLED. I haven’t tested them with OctoWS2811, but the protocol is basically the same (they’re a clone of the WS2812).

The super thin strips are quite a bit more fragile than the regular width ones, though, so if your project requires any sort of repetitive bending you might be better off with a wider one :-). These ones are great when you absolutely need something that thin, but probably not otherwise.

I ended up ordering these: http://www.myneopixel.com/2-meters-60-led-m-5mm-pcb-ws2812b-pixel-led-strip_p0996.html
I was able to pay with PayPal and they showed up in a week to California. I just tested all 5 strips and none are DOA. They seem reasonably well made.

Usually,SK6812MINI is 5V,i hear there is 12V SK6812MINI named SKC6809MINIHV-4P.If use SKC6809MINIHV-4P,The less voltage drop, you don’t power supply both sides and can be connected longer.
