Important Announcement: Upgrading the User Contribution license in the Maker Forums Terms of Service

The Maker Forums Terms of Service license section currently says this:

User contributions are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.

The site leadership have realized that the non-commercial restriction is not in the spirit of Maker Forums. We’re not anti-commercial. We focus on our activities as makers, but as long as it’s the substantial minority of contributions, it’s ok to mention commercial interests (though not to trash-talk others, nor to spam). We have categories here dedicated to commercial products. The original license was chosen when Maker Forums was first being put together, without the context of what Maker Forums has become over the past few years, thanks to all of you.

As a result, we plan on or about Friday, 19 March 2021 to change the license terms to Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License, with the option to move to newer versions from time to time. This removes the no-commercial-use restriction, and lets us keep up with improvements in the “legal code” being created as part of the Creative Commons movement.

We believe that this change follows the intent of forum participants here at Maker Forums.

If you disagree with this change regarding only your own User Contributions, please send a direct message to @moderators or post a reply here before that effective date.

If you continue to post User Contributions to Maker Forums after receiving this notice and without registering disagreement or concerns, we will understand that you approve this change.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to make Maker Forums a better place for all of us.
