I’m curious what addressable LEDs people found for Christmas light replacements. Despite it being too late for any Christmas projects, I’m still really curious to see if I can find some addressable strands for use in places where I would have hung standard LED light strands. Given that 3mm-spaced addressable LED matrices exist, you’d think there would be some small modules available!

I saw @Mark_Kriegsman 's link to C9 bulbs and that seems pretty traditional. For instance: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/50nodes-DC5V-5050-SMD-WS2811-LED-technicolor-pixel-waterproof-full-color-with-smooth-milky-C9-cover/701799_1716537109.html At ~50c per module the price isn’t too bad either. But I’ve always wondered why they make the smaller modules, like the 12mm ones, with multi-colored ribbon but not all-green… Maybe the answer is to just use bare modules, like http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/50nodes-DC12V-WS2811-LED-technicolor-pixel-waterproof-RGB-full-color-in-GREEN-color-case-and-wire/701799_1655516446.html but those still seem pretty large.

Thanks for any leads!

The DIYChristmas forums has lots of folks talking about similar stuff:

I’m using the ws2811 12v black wire, ip68 square less from Ray Wu’s on aliexpress. They come in strings of100 and I can light 200 leds at 50% brightness without flickering.
