It’s worth mentioning that the bad smell from ABS includes hydrogen cyanide gas. Probably about the same amount that a cigarette has, so keep the area near the printer well ventilated during printing.
If you let that gas build up during a long print, things can go badly for your health.

The article suggests that PLA can hold more detail than ABS, and my experience is the reverse. In fact, if not for the smell, I would only use ABS.
