I usually model myself or have my girlfriend open Maya to do mods but are there any free software to splice models? I have a 3D scan of an owl that if broken down the middle or in 4 pieces would print great. Let me know!

Netfabb could do the Job also.

Doesn’t netfabb charge you to do this?

Nope the basic version is free and does the job perfectly.

I would suggest using openscad. Just import your stl and intersect with cube to get just the pieces you want.

@Adam_Chylek the problem with OpenSCAD and importing other STLs is that it is AMAZINGLY picky about it. I don’t think I’ve ever successfully imported something into openscad unless it was directly exported by openscad in the first place.

@Gert_de_Haan , says here “(Pro)” under the option via Project pulldown

You open your Owl, and look at the rightside of the screen, there you can cut in X Y or Z plane. the other option is free cutting, and this is (PRO) to split up a large object in 4 smaller pieces so you can glue them together later on, this option is enough I guess.
