I recently purchased a Gmax printer and printed a few small PLA models then proceeded to tear apart the printer to add a heated bed to facilitate printing ABS and eventually nylon. I’m curious what people do when they want to have dual extruders and a heated bed. Currently on the Gmax ramps board D8 powers the fan that cools the print, D9 powers the bed (through a relay), and D10 powers the hotend. Is there a way for me to add a second extruder down the line to add functionality to my printer?
The ramps has a config to use D9 as a second extruder. Thats interesting they are using D8 for the fan. That is a bigger circuit typically used for the bed. But if they are using a relay its less of an issue I guess.
Well the gmax doesn’t come with a heated bed they have it set up so that D9 can be used for a second hotend but I’m using that port for a heated bed instead since I think that is a more important thing to have. But I would like to add a second hotend later on but I won’t have an available place to hook up the power. I would like to know how other people power dual extruders and a heated bed. I guess I could unplug the fan but everyone says a cooling fan is a necessity if you want to print overhangs.
