I recently killed my CTC (yes, the thermocouples killed themselves so now I have an excuse to rebuild it with a Smoothieboard). I have an i3 I bought from somewhere and I am trying to commission it. The RAMPS is buried under a panel with a bunch of screws and before I open it up I thought I’d ask this question. Here are the symptoms: controller responds fine, RAMPS and controller getting power from USB. Power supply has a dedicated lighted switch. Powering the printer does not power the controller. I get no motor movement or heating. Powering the printer does not engage the motors (no ‘thud’ on bootup). Leads me to believe the manufacturer left the board in USB power mode. My question, is my hunch correct and that’s why I get no movement? PC sees the board just fine.
Check the power out from the power supply.
Yeah and if it’s the PSU its a total teardown…groan.
Try switching on and connecting the USB cable. Does it work then?
Nope. Tried that too
Oh happy day. Took it apart and found that the vendor had left the PSU set at 220V. I reset to 110V and we are in business!
