I load an svg file into LW4. The image comes up on the screen, I hit run and the progress screen shows job started and finished without the job actually running. When I start the machine I get,
Machine connected
Firmware smoothie edge-7d257e9 detected
but nothing happens.
When I hit jog the x and y numbers change but the laser doesn’t move.
I have the machine profile set for Generic smoothie machine. What am I missing?
Did you go into the Comms tab on the left and press connect before going into control to press play?
I am also missing “I create (an) operation(s) and set power and speed”…
Did you create one (or more) Operations to tell the system what you want it to do with the image(s)?
Also, is this the first time you are running this machine, or did it work on a different system before?
I did connect first and received the
Machine connected
Firmware smoothie edge-7d257e9 detected
The K40 ran with the original control board.
I don’t know what create an operation.
This morning

Job finished at Mon Jun 19 2017 07:23:36 GMT-0700 (US Mountain Standard Time)

What am I doing wrong?
This is not my first computer. I’ve been running rotary CNC’s for a couple of years.
Am I missing some settings?
@bbowley2 it’s imperative to know if you went into the comms tab first and selected the port and then pressed connect
Also a screenshot of the files screen just after generating the gcode would be good
@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty he said he “did connect first and received the
Machine connected
Firmware smoothie edge-7d257e9 detected”
Looks like he didn’t actually create any cutting/rastering operations tho: “I don’t know what create an operation.”
Doesn’t explain why jogging apparently also doesn’t work…
@CescoAiel I agree with you but since it’s a 2 step process: connect the USB and the terminal will give you info on the connection plus I believe in older version said machine connected, then you actually need to go and connect
@bbowley2 please provide us the following:
- Screenshot of your LW4 at the ‘files’ screen (Full app screenshot, so we can also see the messages log) right after you’ve completed gcode generation… (As @Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty asked)
- config file from your smoothieboard (it’s on the SD card, which should be available as an external drive on your PC. (So we can check that the smoothie is configured correctly)
- The LW4 version number (on About screen and probably also in your titlebar)
- Whether you are using the LW4 app standalone, or through Chrome browser, accessing the system via it’s web server component
@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty True, but as far as I can remember it only ever told you the firmware version after you it connect…
I’ve not been able to generate a gcode.
Without gcode nothing will ever happen… Then just screenshot it after you’ve pressed the generate button, even if no code comes out, so we can see what’s there! And don’t forget the other stuff…
You need to download the newer version. This one is to old, download here https://github.com/LaserWeb/LaserWeb4-Binaries/releases
What @Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty said…
Also have a look at http://www.cncpro.co/index.php/63-documentation/operations-generate-gcode/operations-creating-operations/6-adding-paths-to-cam-operations
(And still waiting for that config file, so we can see how your smoothie’s been set up!)
