Re: Sketchup - you can use any font, including fonts that you design yourself.

I haven’t made a video to show exactly how to do this, but you can make your own arbitrarily complex vector-based glyphs, saved in SVG format, then convert that SVG into a font, then Skechup’s built-in Text tools can extrude them for 3d printing.

I’m sure that there are other ways of doing that, but that way did work for me.
