I know there were a lot of peeps on this group disappointed at the price of the Digitizer, so what about @Cubify and @3D_Systems entry to the consumer 3D scanner market at just $399?

Without a doubt! Yes, it is. I’m there.

Seems very reasonable. Not incredible resolution but the price it beats all of the competition.

yes but i feel is only bundle prime sense sensor+software.

For so many reasons - I prefer this one:

Are there samples anywhere to download ?

From the prototype of the Occipital:
"These are from the Object Scanner demo app v.0.4. Dropbox - 2013.10.19-ObjectScannerSampleApp_v0.4_Scans.zip - Simplify your life " -

I was actually referring to the cubify scanner. While the occupital is cute, it’s not much more than a small kinect, made by PrimeSense. I’ve done a lot of kinect scanning, and can’t say I was really happy with the results.

Having the ability to put Geomagic behind it gives them a big advantage over the other scanners on the software side.

@Rojer_Wisner Those samples confirm it, they seem identical in quality to what you get with the current kinect.

I don’t doubt that these are less than ideal results. I am hopeful that by the time this Occipital starts shipping, the included software package and scan result will suit my needs. Even if the 3D Systems scanner is significantly better, I don’t want to buy in to another confined garden of proprietary, closed-source, likely-to-become-DRM’d-or-who-knows-what - product. I reserve the right to change my mind once given sufficient education on the whole system. But - no screen, needs to be tethered to a PC? Yuck.

The 3D Systems solution is also built on the PrimeSense engine. I suspect it offers comparable performance to the Kinect based solutions. http://toybuilderlabs.com/blog/2013/11/8/3dsystems-sense-scanner-399

Badly scanned models seem to be replacing the endless stream of customized objects on Thingiverse. It’s bound to get worse the more of these low quality scanners are available… :-\

Just a prime sense in a box. Scanect + prime sense
