I just made a Z-axis probe with an Octo-coupler limit switch

I got tired of using a piece of paper to set my Z axis zero on my router, So I took a look at the tool setters out there and decided to build my own. It uses two springs I got from ink pens to retrace the pin back into the open position. I designed it to use 6-32 threaded rod to keep it together but I afterward epoxied the rod into the top part and sued a 6-32 nut at the bottom.

The Opto-limit switch is from Amazon, about $10 for 10…

the push pin uses a 4mm x 20 screw with the head cut off and a flat drive cut with a Dremel. This gave me the thinking that I could adjust it for precise triggering, But I mounted it into my wasteboard flush to the top.. So there’s that. you are welcome to use this design FOC

QUICK UPDATE:

Genmitsu controller don’t work with this style limit switch… I had to rework the base of the assembly and use a 3D printer limit switch…

And this is my macro G-code to set the z-zero.

It Works good. Although I don’t hav a way of checking the accuracy, It has to be better than the paper method ..
