I have been thinking about this for a while, but haven’t been able to fully wrap my head around on how to execute on this idea. The idea is instead of using a regular spring mechanism like the makerbot and other printers use nowadays… is to use a torsion spring inside the lever itself on the rotating axis.

Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking of using an aluminum spacer inside the torsion spring and a screw inside the spacer to secure it all with the lever.

Shai which spring are you talking about? Not following you.

Might be an idea if you say where your talking of replacing a spring, as a torsion bar works best loaded and not on a rebound.

I spent months looking for a good torsion spring to use, and concluded that they were a much bigger PITA to source than compression springs (which are already a pain) and weren’t worth the trouble. It’s especially difficult when you want to be able to source mirrored pairs, which pretty much requires getting them custom-made. Designing the mechanism to work with torsion springs wound in either direction (so that it can be mirrored for a dual extruder) turned out to be a lot harder than it sounds, and to require removing enough plastic to weaken the structure of the part significantly.
