I finally got around to replacing the belts and pulleys on my Mendel90 with some nice new GT20s. The belts are thinner and much more flexible so I’m hoping for a reduction in cog tooth artifacts and the resolution should improve a little too.
The first print had some rather prominent banding in the Z direction and I guessed (correctly) that this was due to backlash as successive layers were printed in different directions.
The Y belt was already nice and tight but the X axis belt had a lower pitch when I twanged it. I tightened the screw a couple of turns and reprinted my test piece. That one small change made all the difference and now she’s ready to go again!
