How do you extend a heater cartridge's cable?

Some time ago @Richard_Horne recommended using ferrules for the power connections to a ramps board as they handle the power better than bare wire, you could mount a screw terminal within 15cm of the hot end and then join the wire from the board on one side and the cartridge wire on the other, then when you need to change cartridges you just unscrew to remove and tighten to put the new cartridge in.

@Richard_Earl Yes, generally don’t put twisted copper multi-core wires directly into a screw-terminal. Use a crimped ferrule (bootlace or sleeve) - alternatively you can tin the ends of the wire with solder, then clamp down on that - Edit for clarity - But it’s not at all recommended for higher power connections.

It’s also not a great idea to keep on unscrewing screw-terminals, if you need to change the heaters, then go for a suitable in-line plug that’s rated above the heater power load.

@Richard_Horne Please stop recommending to put tinned wire ends into screw terminals. This is how fire hazards begin.

Your multimeter is broken - it should display (note the point) 09.9 on the 200 Ohm setting

@Laimonas_Mockus This makes no sense. 10 Ω is 14,4W @ 12V and 57,6W @ 24W. Both is not common. It should be something around ±5 Ω for 12V and ±15 Ω for 24V.

@Rene_Jurack I’m not recommending anything, just stating options. As an electronics engineer for 25 years I’m also very happy not to help any further. Thanks.
