Hi
I am new to 3D printing and i love the idea of being able to create your own shapes and designs.
I Want to share some ideas that may help into bringing 3D printing to a better status:

  • Creating a website that collect free posted 3D computer models for the less knowledgeable users of 3D graphics.
  • Making projects and competitions.
  • Inviting big project that brings more than one person to build one object.
  • Sharing details about printers and their qualities.

I know that this community is on the right track and hope it continues.

As far as i know, @Ultimaker is trying to cover at least the first three point with Youmagine.
But i agree, we could use a lot more collaboration.

I know everyone loves to hate thingiverse, bit they do the first two, and they do have the largest number of things, despite there being way too much customized junk that they used to force people to share

Really think that Ultimaker needs to be running contests for filament, etc in trade for designs, much like Makerbot does with thingiverse.

@ThantiK MBI is based in New York, Ultimaker is based in Holland. One of these locations makes shipping prizes easier, especially if they restrict the contest to US-only (which sucks, but seems to get more attention than a Europe-only thing, or maybe my perspective is just skewed).
