Hi guys. I would like to buy a relatively small 3D printer that is under £5000 ($9000)… What would you recommend?
For that sum, we probably need quite a lot more details.
What will you use it for, what are your requirements, etc.
It woyuld be used To make Simple little egg shaped characters that would stand under 4 inches tall.
If you want them high resolution then get the form 1
To be honest, my Replicator2 is giving me good results with not that much maintenance. However it is far to be perfect.
Makerbots are great if you want low resolution but nothing can compare to dlp printers like the form 1. The accuracy and layer heights are insane!
Well assuming you are just starting your research.
What is your production rate requirement? Do you want to make one an hour or 10 or 50? What is your detail requirement? 1mm features? .1mm? .01mm? What sort of overhang/extend do you need to support ? What material do you want to make things out of ? Just one material? multiple materials? What are the hardness and durability requirements of the things you are making (this will inform media choice as well). How much of your budget is for the printer and how much for tools? Do you need to make an entire pipeline or do you already have CAD/Modelling resources that can produce .STL files?
The answers to these questions will help you answer your first question about which printer to buy.
For a total of ~$5000 US, you should get both a Form1+ and a Bukito. Use the Form1+ for your extremely high definition or super small prints. The resin for that machine is rather expensive so a portable Bukito is a traditional FDM printers but can be easily modded to fit a battery + gives solid print results. Not to mention, you’ll be able to participate in the community more by having a DIY unit alongside your snazzy expensive Form1+
Don’t go for MakerBot, its a waste of atleast $1500 as most good single head FDM printers shouldn’t cost more than $1800 these days.
