Hi everyone ! I’ve just hit an issue with my chinese prusa i3 clone today : a THERMAL RUNAWAY, which stopped all my prints. As i look into this, my thermistors seems just fine to me, however one of the wire for the heatbed looks slightly damaged (a little bit of it is not even soldered anymore).
Do you think that could have caused the thermal runaway ?
The thermal runaway detection is looking for temp sensing that isn’t logical. For example, if the heater is on but the measured temp is dropping. This can happen because the temp sensor is dislodged, or a fan kicks on pointer at the hot end, or the sensing lag between heater action and the thermistor is longer than the runaway detection window.
Yes, and I looked into that. But there’s nothing wrong with the thermistors. Well, at least there are not dislodged, and temperature reports seems just fine … as long as I don’t print. But as soon as I saw the heatbed damaged wire, I was wondering if I could get temperatures dropping as I print because the heatbed get inconsistent electrical power ?
@Didier_MEDIAKLAN yeah, damaged wiring can cause temp dropping, which can trigger the runaway detection.
By the way, damaged heatbed wiring can burn your house down. I wouldn’t operate the printer until you fix that.
- -’ now now that’s a good thing I got this error before burning anything. I’m quite happy with this error now. Best thing that happened. I also always have a little fire extinguisher (not sure about the english name) right at my printer side ^^. Thank you for your help @Ryan_Carlyle . I’m looking into this. I think I should get my heatbed fine by tomorrow.
Well I’m still unsure about what causes this, but the message on both my printer and MatterControl was pretty clear, and the first one was like this : “THERMAL RUNAWAY, serious issue please reset your printer”.
The second one was a little bit more detailed : “THERMAL RUNAWAY, heating bed, please reset your printer”. Since it was the first time I’ve ever experienced this, that gives me a little scare (not to mention capital characters on my chinese LCD printer clone ? That’s scary in itself ^^). Again, thank you all.
