Hi All,
I’m a new K40 owner with a C3D Mini in transit. I’ve got a bunch of other sanity upgrades either done or in progress so I’m getting pretty close to becoming basically operational.
So now it’s time to look at my design and cutting workflows. I’ve got LaserWeb3 installed just fine on my mac laptop and it’s running great so far.
And that’s where I need a little help. Rather than teaching myself a bunch of bad workflow habits out of pure ignorance, I’d love a LaserWeb ELI5 tutorial, if one exists.
I know that workflows will depend a lot on what design software you have access to. I have a pretty old copy of the Adobe suite (CS4), but it does the job nicely. So, I at least have Illustrator and Photoshop. Outside of that, I installed and played around with Inkscape some but found it somewhat unintuitive.
I found the multi-layered example doc on the LaserWeb wiki and stumbled through that to see how much luck I’d have, but the SVG didn’t open at the right scale, so I think? I have a ppi mismatch somewhere (and don’t know how to fix it). The BMP I created as the engrave layer imported at what seems to be the right size though when I generate the GCode for it, I’m not convinced it will result in a good engraving, and the number of path lines is subpar too.
So, before I get too far down my own rabbit hole here, I thought I’d take a breath and ping the community for a few best practices suggestions. Things I might be tempted to try but really should avoid, or simple tricks in Illustrator or some other tool that really helped you when you were first starting?
I’m definitely not opposed to open source tools either, so if there’s something out there that is really useful or important to your workflow, I’d love to learn more.
Thanks in advance!
