I’m gathering up the parts needed for my CNC, and I could use some help with my controller set up:

Can someone tell me if I would need a braking resistor for my new CNC, and if so, how to calculate the Ohms needed for my 1.5 KW VFD? Also, where would be the most economic place to buy one? Also, do the sizes of my stepper motors affect the size of the resistor needed, or just the VFD? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I’m confused by your question.

Are you driving a multi-phase spindle? What braking resistor on what VFD on what motor?

As far as I know you need a stepper motor driver (not VFD) and never heard of a braking resistor on a stepper?
