Hey guys, help me here.

Hey guys, help me here.
I’ve had the i3 mk2 for a year and a bit, and the Y axis is really starting to annoy me. The prints come out fine, but the Y axis is the only thing that keeps me from sleeping (and my neighbors) at night… What can I do to improve this? The Y axis is completely stock, I just lubricated the bearings. The loudest thing on my printer is still the stepper. Do you think that buying a new stepper solves the issue?
PS: the printer is already in silent mode and is on the latest firmware.

If the Steppers are such an issue, you can turn down the speed and turn on silent mode.

@Sahil_Jain but that’s the thing… I need to turn the speed down to something like 30% and then the surface quality changes. I am already running in silent mode as I mentioned

Oh, sorry didn’t see that

@Sahil_Jain no problem

You can try stepper motor dampeners. Look them up on amazon.

@Sahil_Jain I’ll check them out. Thanks, if there is anything else I can do to get that annoying stepper silent like my X axis I appreciate it.

@max moors have you tried to remove the timelaps camera? the weight of the arm + camera + camble can contribute to the noises of your Y Axis by putting uneven weight on your bed, and so increasing the load on your Y stepper/belt assembly.

@Christian_Schulz I only installed it a little while ago. Its been making these loud noises since I unwrapped it

For me, the desk I had the printer on made a difference, one desk tended to amplify the printer while another didn’t, I also printer some shock absorbers for the feet of the printer that cut down on the vibration.

ahh, ok, i thought its a recent occurence.

@Christian_Schulz ohh no :joy: mine’s been a noise maker since birth

@Edward_Joyce I’m gonna try putting it on the floor, see(hear what happens

@Edward_Joyce I had those feet (that are now supporting the table) for a while but I realized that it was bad for the printer.

It doesn’t seem that loud in the video. I have my printer on rubber feet, which yours is not, so there may be vibration transmission through the hardwood floor with your setup. So rubber feet on the printer and desk legs. Along with that, have you tried putting a cardboard box over the printer?

@MidnightVisions yeah… The video doesn’t do it justice. It is about 60db.
No I haven’t because I don’t have such a big box at home

With apologies: have you thought of going to a big box store?

@Kleinfeld_Technical :joy: no not really I honestly don’t know where to find some store like that where I live (Netherlands)
