Hey folks, just a question regarding work coordinate systems.

Hey folks, just a question regarding work coordinate systems. When I’m working in G54 and I hit the button to set G54 zero, as I expect it zeros out all 3 axes. Then let’s say I want to reset my Z zero for a different machining operation on the same part. I manually jog the Z axis to the surface (using paper as a feeler gauge) and then in the drop down menu for that axis, I hit zero out work Z axis. Instead of zeroing the axis it will set it to a value that appears to be an offset from machine zero on that axis. I’m not 100% sure if that’s what is happening but that’s what it looks like. I find that if I zero out the temporary Z axis it works and the operation runs fine. After the operation the Z axis zero is reset to the G54 value. I hope this makes sense. I assume I’m doing something wrong or don’t fully grasp something here. Can someone explain? I can take a video if that will help.

Thanks!

Brian
