Hey all, I'm not very familiar with 3D printing.

Hey all, I’m not very familiar with 3D printing. Is it possible to print the following as a single part using the Makerbot Replicator 2, or should this first be “broken down” into sub-components (I think it’s a bottom-up process, so I can’t imagine how the model shown would be possible)? Diameter of the part is about 4 inches. Also, I read that the 3D printer has a resolution of 0.1 mm. The threads in the part shown have a pitch of 1.27 mm. Should I take this into consideration when designing screw threads? My concern is that the mating interface will be too tight/loose. Thanks in advance for any help.

This would not work unless you had a good support structure

yes you just need support material. http://www.protoparadigm.com/blog/2012/01/printing-with-support-extreme-overhangs/

print it in parts for sure, like each of those little tubes

Possible

Hey guys, thanks for the input. What about the screw threads (2nd half of the post)? Should I be concerned about resolution issues?

Well you will have to choose either 1.3 or 1.2 and remember that’s just your threshold thickness. There will be fluctuations depending on how well you machine is tuned, consistency of spool diameter, an even the temperature of your nozzle when measuring below/at the resolution of the print.
